General Application Requirements for Various Project Types

Basement Development projects require
  1. May require Development Permit Application (if applicable)
  2. Copy of the approved Shuswap Development Permit (if applicable).
  3. Completed Building Permit Application
  4. Four sets of floor plan that includes:
    • Use and dimensions of the proposed rooms, including square footage
    • Details of structural changes
    • Window sizes and locations
    • Location of smoke alarm(s)
  5. Building permit Fee Payment
Commercial projects require
  1. Approved Development Permit Application (if applicable)
  2. Copy of the approved Shuswap Development Permit (if applicable)
  3. Completed building permit application
  4. Four sets of full working drawings, including: architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings. Engineer Seal may be required.
  5. Four copies of the site plan
  6. Building permit Fee Payment
Residential projects require
  1. Approved Development Permit Application (if applicable)
  2. Copy of the approved Shuswap Development Permit (if applicable)
  3. Completed building permit application
  4. Four sets of blueprints or drawings, including: foundation, floor plan, elevations, cross-section and truss drawings
  5. Four copies of the site plan
  6. Building permit Fee Payment
Relocation of a modular or move-on, to a basement
  1. Approved Development Permit Application (if applicable)
  2. Copy of the approved Shuswap Development Permit (if applicable)
  3. Completed building permit application
  4. Four sets of complete foundation drawings (including cross section and insulating R-values)
  5. Four copies of the site plan
  6. Building permit Fee Payment
Residential Decks
  1. Approved Development Permit Application (if applicable)
  2. Copy of the approved Shuswap Development Permit (if applicable)
  3. Completed building permit application
  4. Four copies of foundation, elevation and cross-section drawings of decks
  5. Four copies of the site plan
  6. Building permit Fee Payment
Small Residential (additions, renovations, garages, wood stoves, etc)
  1. Approved Development Permit Application (if applicable)
  2. Copy of the approved Shuswap Development Permit (if applicable)
  3. Completed building permit application
  4. Four sets of drawings detailing the foundation, floor plan, cross section and elevation
  5. Four copies of the site plan
  6. Building permit Fee Payment
Permit Fees

Permit fees include all costs associated with the permitting and inspection process. Please refer to the Shuswap Building Permit Department for the permit fee schedule.

Drawings

Development and building permit drawings must include the required information and be completely legible.

Posting your Building Permit

The building permit should be posted on the building or site and be visible at all times during construction.

Occupancy

An inspection is required before occupying or using the building.

The Building Inspector will leave inspection reports on the site, unless otherwise specified.
